Voice
As a singer, I’ve been learning and performing for over 20 years and I cannot wait to share this experience. I tailor lessons to the students musical preferences, and in classes I cover technique whilst broadening repertoire and theoretical understanding. Musical Styles taught include (but are not exclusive to) Contemporary, Jazz, Folk, Musical Theatre and Popular voice. I’ve taught ages from five to seventy and would be thrilled to meet you at whatever stage you are on your singing journey.
Beginner Piano and Guitar
I am passionate about teaching beginner piano and guitar students and helping them learn the foundations of their instrument in fun and creative ways. Classes are tailored to the individual students musical preferences and abilities, and focus on proper technique whilst broadening repertoire and theoretical understanding.
Pricing
As per VTMA recommendations, lessons are priced at $44.50 for half an hour, $70 for 45 minutes and $89 for a full hour.
Songwriting
Songwriting is common in my classes, and students often perform their songs at the Fairywren concerts. It is optional but I find it to be a great way of practicing ‘real life’ applications of theory whilst deepening a students musical understanding. I also offer specific songwriting lessons, in which we cover forms, arrangement, perspective and lyric writing.
Exams
Exams can be a great way to add structure to lessons and offer tangible goals for students to work towards. There is no pressure to do examinations but if you are looking for a challenge I can help you find the right exam and guide you through the process. I’m proud to say that so far, all my students have all had great results (honours and above) and really enjoyed the process along the way.
Fairywren Concerts
A safe and nurturing space for gaining performance experience. These student concerts are held twice a year allow pupils to show off their growth and bring home what all the study and the practice is about, sharing music with the ones we love.
A note for the inner critic:
It is a toxic myth that music and musical ability is this magical thing you’re either born with or without.
While natural talent exists to be cultivated and is a bonus, music is absolutely a learnable magic. It’s a physical skill that is obtained through practice, time and a joyful approach (a stressed singer is not an in tune singer).
Think of it like a sport. You don’t need to be an olympic level athlete to benefit from exercise. In fact, if you didn’t exercise because you weren’t you’d be in trouble with both your body and doctor.
Music is no different. It’s a creative exercise and you don’t need to be a superstar to benefit from singing or playing piano and guitar. So, if you’d like to sing, do! If you have access to an instrument play it! Do it now! And if you’d like help growing these abilities, book yourself in for a lesson and let’s get this adventure started.
“The woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best.”
